With MODPSU, ITX Makes Perfect Sense
ITX motherboards have long contained everything you need for a high-end gaming computer or workstation, yet its success is moderate mainly due to two legacy obstacles:
- If you buy a short box you cannot later change to a non-ITX graphics adapter
- The ATX/SFX power supply makes it impossible to design a very small legacy ITX box
Thanks to its modular power supply and extendable box, MODPSU takes full advantage of the ITX form factor, making it a prime choice for gaming computers and workstations.
Itsy and Bitsy
Itsy is the regular one-graphics adapter model. It has an Extendur PCI Express cable.
Bitsy is the two-graphics adapter model. It has a Bifur extender board with automatic PCI Express lane switching (1×16 or 2×8) depending on how many graphics adapters (or other expansion cards) are detected.
Optimal Use of Computer Box Space
Designed to be just about the size of an ITX motherboard, with room for the be quiet! Shadow Rock LP cooler, there is very little wasted space.
What Else is New?
AFAWK, MODPSU Extendur and Bifur are the first PCI Express extenders made of flex/rigid PCB. It is electrically very similar to your motherboard and has the same level of signal quality, previously only found in twinax cables.
Extendur is a (not so) simple pass-through cable.
Bifur contains electronic circuits that automatically sense which sockets contain a PCI Express adapter and switch the signals to either 1×16 or 2×8 lanes. Please note that bifurcation requires motherboard support and setting/s.
